This vision inspired the creation of our Leadership Scholarship Program – now in its third edition – designed to support aspiring leaders on their journey toward shaping the future of aviation.
We are glad to highlight the success story of Blessing Akande, an Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineer.
We asked Blessing a couple of questions:
1. How did you find out about the Sofema Leadership Scholarship Program?
" I came across the scholarship through an online aviation community. It immediately caught my attention as a valuable opportunity to develop leadership skills that are often not covered in traditional technical training."
2. What motivated you to apply for the scholarship?
" As someone with a strong technical background in aviation, I realized how important it is to also grow in areas like leadership, decision-making, and communication. The program felt like the perfect next step in my journey to becoming a well-rounded professional, and I was excited by the chance to learn from a globally respected platform like Sofema."
3. What were the most valuable lessons or skills you gained through the program?
" One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to approach leadership with a strategic mindset. I gained practical tools for problem-solving, leading teams, and managing operations more effectively. The course also helped sharpen my communication skills something I now use daily in both collaborative and technical environments."
4. How has the scholarship influenced your confidence, mindset, or career opportunities?
" Completing the program gave me a real confidence boost. It helped me see leadership as something I’m capable of, not just something reserved for people far ahead in their careers. I now feel better equipped to take initiative, make decisions, and step into roles with more responsibility. I believe this program has opened doors for future leadership opportunities and strengthened my ability to contribute meaningfully wherever I work."
5. What did you enjoy most about learning through Sofema Online?
" The flexibility was a major plus, I could learn at my own pace, without pressure, while still engaging with insightful, well-structured content. Each module was directly applicable to real world challenges in aviation, which made the learning experience practical and enjoyable."
