Introduction
How Effective Is Just Culture - Where are the challenges?
Just Culture is a very sensitive area not just in aviation but in other industries as well. Is the “Just Culture” concept truly the way forward to encourage employees and staff to be open with their mistakes and submit reports?
Is this approach crucial to safety culture? Why are employees still afraid to own up to their mistakes if “Just Culture” is working? It takes more than amending Having on safety policy statements and changing manuals.
Just Culture also relies on Attitude, Trust, and Fairness.
An effective Just Culture requires role models and examples of protection and even at times recognition of employees who do not conceal work errors. A challenge that some organizations face, is where we draw the line to between taking disciplinary action against employees and counseling them.
Do we treat this grey area case by case of do we clearly state a set of rules to comply with?
Should these rules be flexible?
Hot topics like this and more will be covered and how to tackle the industry’s biggest challenges on developing a Just Culture.
Some key items also to be covered:
What is the difference between “Just Culture” and “Blame Culture” and why they are not the same?
The benefits of a True Just Culture and weaknesses of a “Blame Free Culture”.
Why is Just Culture so important?
Why are people still afraid to submit reports if there is a Just Culture?
What is preventing Just Culture from working in some organizations? Is it effective? Can we do better?
How long has the “Just Culture” been around for?
Where does Just Culture start from?
The importance of a smooth reporting system for an effective Just Culture.
How do you know your Just Culture environment is working?
Important Definitions and differences between, “honest mistake”, “negligence” and “wilful violations”.
