Part 2: Check – GVI – DVI – SI
An examination (e.g., an inspection or test) to determine the physical integrity and/or functional capability of an item.

GVI - General Visual Inspection is the “Basic Inspection” which is usually performed without removing panels (other than quick release).
DVI - Detailed Inspection requires additional activity which will be identified within the task.
SI - Special Inspection will also be identified typically relates to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

Continuing Airworthiness
The Process of Managing the Safety, Compliance, and Conformity of the aircraft with all regulatory and mandatory requirements and ensuring the aircraft remains compliant.

Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition
The Document describes the procedures and processes that will be followed by the Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAME) which follows the requirements of EASA Part M – GCAA CAR M – this Document belongs to the operator and is approved by the CAA.

Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization
The group which works under the guidance of the Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM) typically consists of Maintenance Planning, Technical Records, Engineering & Reliability.

Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations
A Feature that should be maintained, a Test, Check, or Inspection should be carried out whenever a specified task is performed typically identified in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) or in the Aircraft Maintenance Planning Document (MPD).

Configuration Deviation List
A document that describes the “terms and conditions” by which an aircraft may be released when the configuration of the aircraft differs from Standard – for example, an external panel is missing.

Certificate of Release to Service
The CRS must be signed whenever a maintenance task is performed on the aircraft. The majority of Certificate of Release to Service statements are signed in the Aircraft Tech Log following a Line Maintenance Activity.

The CRS is only in relation to the task or check and does not mean the aircraft is airworthy – The determination of Airworthiness is the responsibility of the Operator.

A Pre-departure Inspection does not require a CRS
The highest level regulation or requirement is termed an implementing rule – how we comply with this requirement is typically detailed within the associated “AMC”.

Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance is an independent audit process performed by the Quality department to ensure compliance with regulatory compliance.

Quality Control
Quality Control is an integral part of the production process. Stores Inspection is a QC activity.

Safety Assurance
Safety Assurance concerns the exposure of Hazards. The consideration of associated risk and the development of mitigations to lower the risk.
